Awards and Honors
Huda Y. Zoghbi was named this year's recipient of the University of Pittsburgh's Dickson Prize in Medicine. Dr. Zoghbi is a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Molecular and Human Genetics, Neurology, and Neuroscience, and the Program in Developmental Biology at Baylor College of Medicine; director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children's Hospital; and an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Heather A. Sakely was named a 2013 recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation's New Investigator Research Grant. Dr. Sakely is director of both the PGY2 Geriatric Pharmacy Residency Program and of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center St. Margaret. The program supports practice-based research conducted by pharmacist new investigators that relates to the assumptions, beliefs and recommendations from the November 2010 ASHP/ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative Summit. Dr. Sakely will use the $20,000 grant to conduct a study entitled "PIVOTS: Pharmacist-Led InterVention on Transitions of Seniors," with guidance from senior investigator Kim C. Coley, Pharm.D., FCCP, at the Pitt School of Pharmacy.
The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association recognized J. Roger Glunt with its John Heinz Friend of Nursing Award. The award is given to a nonmember who has demonstrated leadership that has significantly impacted nursing practice, nursing education, nursing administration, and/or nursing research within the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
