Associations & Organizations

The University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers was well represented at the national organization's 39th annual convention in Indianapolis, Saturday through March 31. Leading off the recognition was the election of Ph.D. candidate Sossena Wood to national chairperson of the organization.

Tracey McCants Lewis, assistant director of clinical legal education and assistant clinical professor of law at Duquesne University, was appointed by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to its 13-member Disciplinary Board.

Banking

Brentwood Bank recently announced the addition of Carrie Havas as assistant vice president of loan administration at its Bethel Park corporate office.

Communications

Verizon Wireless promoted Darren Webster to director of retail sales for the Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia (East) region.

Education

Carlow University named Deanne Horner D'Emilio to be the dean of the School of Management.

Engineering

James M. Lopresti was promoted to vice president of sales at Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc. In addition, Andrew D. Cardosi was promoted to office manager to lead the Pittsburgh office.

DiGioia Gray & Associates LLC said Adam G. Bowland and Florian L. Bechtold joined as staff engineers in the geotechnical and structural engineering group.

Financial

David H. Bergstein was promoted to director of investments at Oppenheimer & Co.'s Monroeville office.

Health

Joy Peters joined the nursing leadership team at Jefferson Regional Medical Center as associate nurse executive.

West Penn Allegheny Health System said Sherif L. Rizk was named clinical director of its division of colorectal surgery. Dr. Rizk will see patients in his new office in the Mellon Pavilion at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital.

Investment

Yanni & Associates Investment Advisors LLC promoted Nile Doaty to office manager.

Media

CBS RADIO Pittsburgh announced that Flick joined 100.7 Star (WBZZ-FM) as afternoon personality.

Nonprofit

Bridgeway Capital hired Aaron Aldrich, entrepreneur loan officer, and Ryan Lockhart, 504 loan officer.

The Education Foundation named Julie Banks as director of development.

Professional Services

Regulatory and Quality Solutions LLC hired Katie Dillon, regulatory and quality engineer and Matt Burger, regulatory and quality senior engineer, both in the Pittsburgh office.

Frank Falvo was named senior manager at Deloitte Tax in the multistate tax practice.

Awards & Honors

John R. Anderson of Carnegie Mellon University was selected to receive the Association for Psychological Science's William James Lifetime Achievement Award for Basic Research. The award, recognizes Mr. Anderson's impact on the field of psychological science and his significant intellectual contributions to the basic science of psychology. He is being recognized both for the importance of his theoretical contributions and for his success in transitioning his theories into widely used applications having great societal impact. Mr. Anderson, the R.K. Mellon University professor of psychology and computer science has been on the Carnegie Mellon faculty since 1978.

The Frick Art & Historical Center said Marie Romanelli and George Blank were named recipients of the 2013 Roy A. Hunt Foundation Award for Commitment to Education in the Arts and Humanities. Ms. Romanelli and Mr. Blank are teachers at Franklin Regional Middle School in the Franklin Regional School District. In 1999, the Roy A. Hunt Foundation worked with the Frick Art & Historical Center to establish this award. The Roy A. Hunt Foundation Award for Commitment to Education in the Arts and Humanities is given annually to an educator who has demonstrated a commitment to participating in the Frick's education programs, and who has successfully integrated the arts into the students' learning experience.

Community College of Allegheny County board of trustees recognized alumnus Robert M. Mill as a trustee emeritus. Mr. Mill was awarded the title for his many contributions to the college including his work on both the CCAC Board of Trustees, where he served as member from 1972 until 1997 and as chair from 1981 to 1987, and the CCAC Educational Foundation Board of Directors on which, as a founding member in 1979, he served until 2001 before being awarded emeritus standing in 2003.

Erika Arbogast, president of Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh, has been named a 2013 Diamond Award winner by the Pittsburgh Business Times. The awards honor the region's top presidents, CEOs and executive directors. Ms. Arbogast is among the 16 leaders in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations and one of four nonprofit leaders honored.
