San Francisco-based online women's apparel retailer ModCloth has laid off 70 employees, including 25 in Pittsburgh, according to a company representative.
The layoffs, which went into effect Tuesday, are part of a company-wide strategy to realign operations to increase efficiency. As part of the plan, the company consolidated a Los Angeles-based photo and will now perform all of its functions in Pittsburgh. The ModCloth representative said Pittsburgh, which had 300 employees after the layoffs, will remain the company's largest center of operations.
ModCloth, which had a little more than 500 employees prior to the layoffs, has been trimmed to somewhere between 430 and 450.
