The Allegheny County Airport Authority on Friday removed Bradley D. Penrod, president and chief strategy officer, and appointed James R. Gill, the authority’s chief financial officer, to acting executive director.
A press release issued after Friday’s board meeting of the authority simply stated that Mr. Penrod “is no longer employed by the Authority.”
Dennis Davin, treasurer of the Airport Authority board, said the board had been planning to look for a new CEO last year, but then got busy with negotiating a drilling lease for natural gas with Consol Energy and with all of the issues that surrounded the U.S. Airways merger with American Airlines.
Now that those issues have settled down somewhat, the board is embarking on a nationwide search for a president and CEO.
In February 2013, Mr. Penrod, who had been executive director since October 2007, was demoted by the airport authority from his role as CEO to president and chief strategy officer.
He had worked for the authority for more than 30 years, starting when the airport was run by the county’s Department of Aviation. He notably supervised the move from the old airport to the new Midfield Terminal in 1992.
