Koppers Holdings said it will shut down a tar plant in Uithoorn, in the Netherlands, because of sluggish market conditions in Europe.

The facility employs about 60 workers.

Downtown Pittsburgh-based Koppers expects the plant to close by the middle of the year and said it will transfer production to other facilities it owns in Europe.

The company said it will take pre-tax charges of 25 million euros ($34 million) through the end of 2014 to cover severance, demolition and other costs.
