No. 7 Boston College made quick work of Bowling Green in the opening game of the Three Rivers Classic at Consol Energy Center Friday afternoon, dumping the Falcons, 5-0, to advance to the championship game Saturday.

The Eagles will face the winner of Robert Morris-Penn State, who take the ice next for their first-round contest. Bowling Green will face the loser in a consolation game Saturday afternoon.

Boston College (11-4-2, 6-1-1 Hockey East) took a 3-0 first-period lead on three pretty backhanded goals by forward Johnny Gaudreau, defenseman Travis Jeke — a Pittsburgh native — and defenseman Teddy Doherty.

Eagles defenseman Scott Savage extended the lead to 4-0 with a goal midway through the second period, and defenseman Michael Matheson closed the scoring with just 16.3 seconds left in the game.

Goalie Brian Billett made 27 saves to earn his first clean sheet of the season.
