Two Fayette County juveniles arrested in attempted homicide

Two Fayette County juveniles--ages 14 and 16--have been charged with attacking a driver with whom they were riding on Aug. 22 by beating him and setting him on fire.

The 14 year old, whose name was not released, and the 16 year old, Donald Lee Evans Jr. of Church Avenue, Masontown, who was charged as an adult, are accused of assaulting the victim, David Lee Overfield, 46, of Morgantown, W.Va. Mr. Evans remains at large.

State police said that while on Mack Farm Road in Nicholson Township, Fayette County, the suspects beat him with a blunt instrument, pulled him from the vehicle, bound him with rope and set him on fire and left him to die. The suspects then fled in the victim's vehicle.

Mr. Overfield suffered burns to his chest, stomach, back, right arm and hand. He also had four broken vertebrae, lacerations, bruises and contusions to his head and face. He was treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

The suspects face charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, robbery, conspiracy, and theft by unlawful taking.
