Pitt standout LeSean McCoy is expected to declare for the NFL draft, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
McCoy had said in December that he was going to stay in school, but he was not present at a team meeting today which fueled speculation about his departure. According to one family member, McCoy spoke to several former Pitt players, including Larry Fitzgerald, who advised him to go to the NFL draft.
Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt, who is on the road recruiting, had spoken with members of an NFL draft advisory committee who told him that McCoy would be a low first to early second round draft pick. The two are expected to meet in the next few days to discuss the situation.
Without McCoy, the Pitt tailback competition in the spring would be between Chris Burns, Shariff Harris and Kevin Collier.
