Some road closings will begin tonight in advance of the 29th running of the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race on Sunday morning.
The Finish Line area, located at Penn Avenue and Liberty Avenue between Stanwix Street and Commonwealth Place and Stanwix Street between Penn Avenue and Liberty Avenue, will close at 7 p.m. today and will remain closed until 3 p.m. Sunday.
The 10K run begins at 9 a.m. Sunday on Beechwood Boulevard in Frick Park and will follow a downhill course along Fifth Avenue and the Boulevard of the Allies to Downtown. A 5K run and walk begins at 8 a.m. and will begin at Fifth and Meyran avenues in Oakland and follow the same route as the 10K.
Most of the route will be closed starting early Sunday on the following schedule:
Beechwood Boulevard will be closed between Shaw and Forbes avenues, and Forbes will be closed between Beechwood and Morewood Avenue beginning at 8 a.m. and will open as soon as runners pass.
Morewood will be closed between Forbes and Fifth Avenue, and Fifth will be closed between Morewood and Bigelow Boulevard beginning at 8 a.m. and will open as soon as runners pass.
Fifth will be closed between Bigelow and Craft Avenue, and Craft will be closed between Fifth and Forbes from 7 to 10 a.m.
Forbes between Craft and the Boulevard of the Allies will be closed from 7 to 10:30 a.m.
The following closures will be in effect from 7 to 10:30 a.m.: Boulevard of the Allies between Forbes and Wood Street, Wood between Boulevard of the Allies and Fort Pitt Boulevard, Fort Pitt between Wood and Commonwealth Place, Commonwealth from Fort Pitt to Liberty Avenue.
