KDKA morning anchor Keith Jones returned to the air for yesterday's 6 a.m. newscast, apologizing to viewers, his colleagues and family for drinking and driving in April, which led to an accident that kept him away from the anchor desk for two months.

"I made a decision that will affect me for the rest of my life, the decision to drink and drive," a composed and contrite Jones said. "I was involved in a one-car accident that left me seriously injured and, more importantly, put my family and all other families on the road that night at terrible risk."

Jones went on to say he regretted those actions, thanked viewers for their concern and said he understood the "strong feelings" expressed by some in reaction to the incident.

"Believe me, I do understand the serious nature of what I did," he said, "and I hope over time to win back your trust."
