The national tour of “An American in Paris,” the winner of four Tony Awards in 2015, will dance into the Benedum Center May 30-June 11, 2017, as part of the Pittsburgh CLO summer season and the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh 2016-17 series.
“We created the world premiere of the new musical ‘An American in Paris’ in Paris and then on Broadway, with the ultimate destination being our Pittsburgh CLO subscribers,” said Van Kaplan, Pittsburgh CLO executive producer and a co-producer of “An American in Paris.” “Half of our sizeable cast made their Broadway debut in our show, including our director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, which for me is Pittsburgh CLO at its best: creating professional opportunities for young artists in new musicals that become tomorrow’s revivals.”
Mr. Wheeldon won a Tony for his choreography of the musical, showcasing the songs of George and Ira Gershwin and adapted for the stage from the Gene Kelly-Leslie Caron film. “An American in Paris” earned 12 Tony nominations and four Drama Desk Awards and was named best musical by the Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards. The musical has been at New York’s Palace Theatre since its Broadway opening on April 12.
Subscriptions to the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh Series are available at 412-456-1390 or trustarts.org/Broadway and Pittsburgh CLO at 412-281-2822 or www.pittsburghclo.org. Individual tickets go on sale to the public at a later date.
