TUESDAY Sept. 5

JazzLive presents jazz drummer Thomas Wendt at the Agnes R. Katz Plaza, 655 Penn Ave., Downtown, at 5 p.m. Free and open to the public, this music series showcases some of the region’s finest jazz musicians each Tuesday. Information: www.trustarts.org or 412-456-6666.

The Britsburgh Festival this year includes a concert at Heinz Memorial Chapel, 4200 Fifth Ave., University of Pittsburgh, Oakland. Local organists Barbara McKelway, Doug Starr, Rebecca Rollett and Jon Tyillian will perform music by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Field, Handel and more on the chapel organ at 3 p.m. A walking tour of the chapel’s stained glass windows begins at 2 p.m. Free but registration is requested at britsburgh.com. Donations accepted.

THURSDAY

The Tom Rainey Trio kicks off International Jazz Poetry Month at City of Asylum@Alphabet City, 40 W. North Ave., North Side, at 7 p.m. The trio features three world-class musicians at the top of their game — drummer and bandleader Mr. Rainey, Ingrid Laubrock on saxophone and Mary Halvorson on guitar. Admission is free, but registration is required. To register, www.alphabetcity.org. For International Jazz Poetry Month concerts, Alphabet City will be set up like a jazz club. Dinner reservations at Casellula Cheese & Wine Cafe are limited, so reservations are recommended.

Join the closing celebrations for the visual art exhibitions “For the Culture: Robert Hodge” and “Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution” at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, 980 Liberty Ave., Downtown, at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Hodge and other contributing artists will discuss their works. ToonSeum executive director John Kelly will discuss “Funky Turns 40.” The exhibits and closing celebrations are free and open to the public. Comedian Tom Green appears at the Pittsburgh Improv, 166 E. Bridge St., at The Waterfront, Homestead. Mr. Green is best known for the TV shows “The Tom Green Show,” “Tom Green’s House Tonight” and “Tom Green Live.” Showtimes are: 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. Friday; 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and 7 p.m. next Sunday. SATURDAY and NEXT SUNDAY

Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks presents “Henry V” directed by Alan Irvine in Highland Park, across from the Super Playground on Reservoir Drive at 2 p.m. The show features Lamar K. Cheston as Henry V — one of England’s most legendary kings and an inspiring young leader who aims to win back territories through war with France. “Henry V” also includes seven other actors, Stoney Richards, Tonya R. Lynn, Nick Benninger, Amy Dick, Ryan Bergman, Bob Colbert and Sarah Carleton, as well as a company of young local actors playing the “Soldiers Company.”

The production is staged in three Pittsburgh parks over four weekends on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Other show dates are: Sept. 16-17 at Arsenal Park, 40th Street between Penn Avenue and Butler Street (enter on 40th Street at Davison Street), Lawrenceville, and Sept. 23-24 at Frick Park, Blue Slide playground, Beechwood Boulevard and Nicholson Street, Squirrel Hill. Arrive by 1:30 p.m. with a blanket or chair to get a spot for opening words from the director/storyteller Mr. Irvine and Yvonne Hudson as Mrs. Shakespeare at varied events.
