New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Safran Foer appears at the Carnegie Library Lecture Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland, at 7 p.m. as part of the Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures New & Noted series. Mr. Foer, best known for “Everything Is Illuminated” and “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” will be discussing his latest book, “Here I Am” — the story of a fracturing family in a moment of crisis set in present-day Washington, D.C. The Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh hosts the Penn OUT Loud/ Smoke & Mirrors art show, gallery crawl and dance party along Penn Avenue in Garfield from 3 p.m. to midnight. The event honors LGBTQ+ Pride and more than a dozen community spaces will host live performances, visual arts, craft exhibitions, food, drink, community discussions and children’s activities. Everyone is welcome. Most activities and stops are free and open to families and people of all ages. Event highlights will include a queer craft market, Project Silk dance performances, Bunker Projects spoken word performances, Most Wanted Fine Art exhibitions and the LGBTQ*Bert queer comedy troupe.
