Pamela Murchison is the next executive director of Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, following Chris McGlumphy, who resigned last year.
In a statement, artistic director Kevin Noe said he is "thrilled to have Pam as a new partner in the PNME family. A terrific musician herself and a long-time PNME supporter, she brings a collaborative and galvanizing energy to the organization."
Ms. Murchison earned a bachelors degree in flute performance at Duquesne University, a masters degree from Youngstown State University and is completing her doctorate at West Virginia University.
She has held performing and leadership positions in the Akron Symphony, West Virginia Symphony and Ohio Valley Symphony orchestras. Ms. Murchison also has performed with Opera Theater Pittsburgh and the Matt Murchison Mutiny, a chamber ensemble.
Ms. Murchison, who also teaches music at various levels, said in a statement "I'm particularly struck at the consistently exceptional level of [PNME] artistic output. PNME has been a model for new music ensembles throughout the country, a true friend to composers and the Pittsburgh community."
PNME was founded in 1976 and performs contemporary classical music during its summertime concert season at City Theatre.
