LOS ANGELES -- Oscar voters, start your ballots.

Voting began Friday for Academy Award nominees, honoring work in 2013. Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are invited to cast secret ballots for their favorite film work from the past year until Jan. 8, 2014.

The academy is offering electronic voting to its roughly 6,000 members for the second consecutive year. It announced last week that 289 feature films are eligible for best picture consideration.

Nominations for the 86th Academy Awards will be announced the morning of Jan. 16 at the academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The ceremony will air live on ABC March 2, when Ellen DeGeneres will host for the second time.

Honorees already announced by the academy were Angelina Jolie, who received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her charity work, and the Governors Award winners, actors Angela Lansbury and Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi.
