HINKLEY'S RETRO POP
Hinkley brings its tuneful, '60s-flavored chamber pop (and occasional blasts of raucous '60s-flavored pop) from Rochester, N.Y., to Pittsburgh's Quiet Storm tonight with Kelli Hick and Pittsburgh's own Bingo Quixote. The show begins at 9. Admission is $5. If you go, be sure to grab the band's self-titled CD. There's even what sounds like a xylophone solo on the first cut, "Frail and Poker Faced."
PLAYING THE GALLERY
The Grainbag On-Line Gallery goes public with an exhibition at the Garfield Artworks, opening and closing with performances by two of Pittsburgh's finest local bands -- The Johnsons Big Band tonight and the New Alcindors on the Feb. 27. Participating artists include James Shipman, Holly Fisher, Paul Nehring, Mundania Horvath, Susannah Mira, Michael Leahy and Patrice Lehocky.
FRANKE WORKSHOP
Singer-songwriter Bob Franke has had his songs covered by Kathy Mattea, Peter, Paul and Mary, David Wilcox and lots of other artists. In addition to his Saturday concert at the Frick Fine Arts Building ($10, 8 p.m.), Franke will talk shop with local songwriters at two workshops in Room 3S07 Posvar Hall on Bigelow Boulevard in Oakland. The workshops begin at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and admission is $50. Pre-register at 412-432-0333.
