Holiday Happenings: All that blarney and beer

St. Patrick's Day on a Sunday. Does that mean green beer on Friday night? Saturday night? Sunday night? All three? This year, the holiday takes over the entire weekend. Here are some places to get your party started:

St. Patrick's Day Parade Button Party Benefit for the Parade Committee with beverages and a hot buffet. Mitchell's Pub, Ross Street, Downtown. Tomorrow from 5 to 7:30 p.m. $25 donation.

St. Patrick's Day Parade Marching bands, floats and other Irish entertainers will start at the Mellon Arena tomorrow at 10 a.m., travel down Fifth Avenue to Liberty Avenue. The reviewing stand will be in the area of the Hilton hotel.

Pittsburgh Irish Festival Family festival following the St. Patrick's Day Parade with crafts, Irish marketplace, Gaelic Symbol Drawing (11 a.m.), performances by Shovlin School of Irish Dance (11:30), Matthew Craig (noon and 1:45 p.m.), Bell School of Irish Dance (12:30 p.m.) and Burke Irish Dancers (1 p.m.).
