Unless the Steelers pull off an Immaculate Redemption and make the playoffs, safety Lee Flowers is done playing this season.
Flowers had a piece of the miniscus in his left knee removed yesterday through an arthroscope. The knee was injured in the third quarter Sunday against the Giants.
"The scope went very well," Coach Bill Cowher said. "He's out for the rest of the regular season, and if we can continue on, I think there would be a chance for him to come back."
Flowers is second on the team with 108 tackles, tied for the lead with four forced fumbles and is second with three fumble returns. He has one interception.
Ainsley Battles, an undrafted rookie, will replace him. Battles is 5-10, 190 and Flowers 6-0, 211.
"He's really done a good job," Cowher said of Battles. "He's taken a lot of reps. He has backed [Flowers] up now the last three, four weeks. It's not like he's uncomfortable with what we're doing. We're really not going to change anything we're doing."
