Talib Zanna led No. 23 Pitt to a 73-64 overtime victory against Villanova this afternoon at the Petersen Events Center.
Zanna scored 14 points and pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds. He scored the first seven points of the overtime period to stake the Panthers to a lead they would not relinquish.
Pitt (23-7, 11-6) still has a chance to claim one of the top four spots in the Big East standings and a double bye at the conference tournament. Heading into the final week of the regular season the Panthers are alone in the fourth place, a half-game ahead of Notre Dame and Syracuse.
Freshman point guard James Robinson was the hero near the end of regulation. He made a 3-pointer with 33 seconds remaining to tie the score at 57-57. He made another 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in overtime after Villanova cut the lead to two.
Correction/Clarification: (March 3, 2013) In an earlier version of this story, the number of rebounds for Talib Zanna was incorrect.
