NEW YORK (AP) -- Pittsburgh Penguins right wing
Jaromir Jagr leads all vote-getters for the World
All-Star Team to determine the starting lineups for the
first NHL International Showdown on Jan. 18 in Vancouver.
Jagr, a Czech Republic native, has received 44,484
votes to lead in the forwards category ahead of
second-place Teemu Selanne of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim
(35,493), the NHL announced Wednesday.
Leaders at other positions include Colorado Avalanche
center Peter Forsberg, who has collected 35,705 votes to
pace all centers; defensemen Viacheslav Fetisov of
Detroit (15,890) and Colorado's Sandis Ozolinsh (15,466)
and goaltender Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres
(24,058).
Fans in the Russell Athletic NHL All-Star Fan
Balloting may choose players from the North American and
World All-Star Teams. The top two forwards and defensemen
and the leading center and goaltender from each team will
comprise the starting lineup for the All-Star Game, which
will feature a new format matching players from North
America against players against the rest of the world.
