Junkanoo jam
Celebrate the calypso music and island dancing of the Bahamas with "Junkanoo" at 7:30 tonight at the Byham Theater. The performance is presented by music teacher Birdie Nichols and the Glorious Rebirth performing troupe. The junkanoo experience is elevated by attention to elaborate cultural costumes and music enhanced by the sounds of goatskin, drums, cowbells and whistles, and a brass section. Historically, it is the music that enslaved Bahamians made from castoff items, such as scrap metal and rum and food containers. 412-793-6130.
Seagal cancels
Steven Seagal can fight off terrorists and save the world in the movies, but the touring life might be a bit much for him. The action star and blues singer has canceled his concert Tuesday night at the Rex due to fatigue and vocal strain.
