Question of the week

Varsity Extra asks the question and you send us the answers. Every Friday, we'll publish some of your comments.

Last week's question:

Who is the best coach in the WPIAL/ City League?

That would have to be Jim Render of Upper St. Clair. He is the winningest coach in WPIAL history with a record of 326-103-6."

-- Robert Gridley,

Alpharetta, Ga.

I believe it's a tie between Ambridge's Don Yannessa and Canon-McMillan's Guy Montecalvo. I say Yannessa because of his work with Aliquippa (1972-88) and how he made that team the model that schools looked toward. I say Montecalvo because he turned Washington into a perennial powerhouse before he came to Canon-McMillan."

Woodland Hills' George Novak. Not only because of his record but because his lifelong influence on the lives and character of his players is beyond measure"
