WPIAL Class AAA: Elizabeth Forward wins, 20-19, vs. Uniontown

Randy Santina scored twice in the fourth quarter to lead Elizabeth Forward to a 20-19 road victory over Uniontown. Santina caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Scales with 7:07 left in the game which gave the Warriors a 14-13 lead. He then ran 21 yards for another score with 2:08 remaining.

Uniontown scored with 48 seconds remaining on a 1-yard pass from Steve Kezmarsky to Quindell Dean, but the extra point attempt was blocked. Kezmarsky also connected with Dean on a 43-yard scoring strike in the first quarter.

The victory gave Elizabeth Forward, and new coach Pete Rostosky, its first 2-0 start since 1998. Uniontown fell to 1-1.

Other games

West Allegheny 45, Highlands 7
Greg Marshall and Jamie Schumacher returned interceptions for touchdowns to lead West Allegheny (2-0), ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL in Class AAA. Marshall returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, while Schumacher picked off a fourth-quarter pass and returned it 91 yards for another score.

Marshall also threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jack Seifert in the third quarter. The Indians also scored on a fake punt attempt, in which Scott Ruperto connected on a 52-yard touchdown pass to Rob Giles.

Josh Shelton, a transfer from Highlands, scored on a 14-yard run for West Allegheny in the second quarter, but left the game with an injury.

Highlands (0-2) scored on a 7-yard run by Justin Meyers.

Canon-McMillan 39, Trinity 28
Kendell Davis rushed for 182 yards on only 10 carries and scored on an 82-yard, while Big Mac teammate Dennis Cole scored on runs of 10 and 53 yards. Canon-McMillan (2-0), ranked No. 4 in WPIAL Class AAA, accumulated 456 yards in total offense.

Trinity (1-1) was led by Anderson Hutchinson, who scored on runs of 4 and 1 yards.

Moon 34, Knoch 12
Matt Dowdell threw for two touchdowns in the third quarter and ran for another in the second quarter to lead Moon (2-0), ranked No. 5 in WPIAL Class AAA.

Dowdell connected with Chad Trenney on a 10-yard touchdown pass and with Robbie Francis on a 49-yard scoring strike. He also scored on a 2-yard run.

Casey Williams added 110 yards rushing to the Tigers offensive attack and scored on runs of 5 and 20 yards.

Knoch (0-2) scored on a 14-yard pass from Jordan Shoop to Ryan Hollihan and on a 52-yard run by Dave Bergamasco.

Ambridge 22, West Mifflin 14
Justin Ford completed 7 of 13 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown to lead Ambridge (1-1). Ford connected with Craig Besong on an 11-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

The Bridgers also scored on touchdown runs by James Pridel and T.J. Pringle.

West Mifflin (1-1) was led by Kirk Rider, who completed 12 of 24 passes for 148 yards and connected with Justin Moore on an 11-yard touchdown pass.

Chartiers Valley 14, Keystone Oaks 0
Nick Hursky rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries and gave Chartiers Valley (2-0) the only points it needed with a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The Colts also scored on a 60-yard return of a fumble recovery by Chris Horey in the third quarter.

Keystone Oaks (0-2) accumulated only 136 yards in total offense.

Hampton 25, Mount Pleasant 14
Steve Paskorz rushed for 277 yards on 19 carries as Hampton (2-0) remained unbeaten. Paskorz scored on touchdown runs of 52 and 74 yards.

Tyler Gorinski led Mount Pleasant (0-2) with 114 yards on 21 carries. Gorinski scored on a 10-yard run.

Belle Vernon 13, Peters Township 7
Belle Vernon (1-1) rebounded from last week's 28-0 loss to Thomas Jefferson with this victory. Peters Township dropped to 1-1.

Greensburg Salem 19, Franklin Regional 6
Matt Boe kicked two field goals, including a 47-yard attempt in the fourth quarter which set a Greensburg Salem record. Boe also gave the Golden Lions their first points with a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Greensburg Salem (1-1) also scored on a 20-yard blocked punt return by Donnie Jones and on a 27-yard run by Brennan Marion.

Franklin Regional (1-1) opened the scoring with a 9-yard run by Robby Armstrong, but were held scoreless the rest of the game.

Yough 21, New Castle 19
Craig Sedunov rushed for 165 yards and scored on runs of 61 and 43 yards to lead Yough (2-0). He also caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from brother Mike Sedunov. New Castle dropped to 0-2

Montour 15, Albert Gallatin 13
Chris Wilson rushed for 117 yards on 19 carries to lead Montour (1-1). Albert Gallatin dropped to 0-1.

Ringgold 40, Laurel Highlands 32
Robert Heller set a Ringgold school record with 312 yards rushing. Heller carried the ball 29 times and scored on runs of 4 and 66 yards. He also returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown for the Rams (1-1). It was the first victory for new Ringgold coach Russ Moore. Laurel Highlands (0-2) was led by Jared Joden, who completed 14 of 27 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Randy Rankin on scoring passes of 55 and 24 yards.

Indiana 35, Derry Area 14
Zach Smith scored on runs of 1, 4 and 9 yards to lead Indiana (1-1). The Little Indians also scored on a 26-yard run by James Cavalancia and a 10-yard run by Craig Broadbent. Derry (1-1) scored twice on touchdown passes from Nicholas Baum to Matt Clayton. The first covered 59 yards and included a lateral from Ron Hixson, while the second was for 20 yards.
