Two girls' basketball players from the WPIAL are headed to Mid-American Conference colleges.
Eve Pyle, a 6-foot-1 forward at Oakland Catholic, made a verbal commitment to Miami (Ohio) yesterday. Rachel Frederick, a 5-10 guard-forward at North Catholic, committed to Ohio Friday. Both players are juniors and will sign binding letters of intent with their colleges in November.
Pyle, a Murrysville resident, averaged 14.3 points a game this past season. Miami was the only school to offer a scholarship so far, but others were interested. She made two unofficial visits to Miami.
"I just basically wanted to get it over with because I had a feeling Miami was going to be the place for me," Pyle said. "After visiting it the second time, it felt like a good fit for me. I didn't want to wait any more."
Pyle is the second Oakland Catholic player to commit to a Division I college in the past two days. Guard Brianne O'Rourke committed to Penn State Saturday. "The funny thing is my dad went to school at Miami," Pyle said. Frederick, a Hampton resident, averaged 14 points a game this past season for the WPIAL Class AAA champion Trojanettes.
