Marty Turco made 38 saves and helps the Stars hold off elimination in a 2-1 win in Detroit.

FIRST PERIOD

16:30: Mike Ribeiro steals the puck off Brad Stuart at the point. Ribeiro foces the puck up ice and swoops in near the net. Stuart lunges and swats the puck away but also takes out Ribeiro's skates. The official raises his hand. A few Stars mug Stuart and a scrum breaks out. Stuart and Darren McCarty go off as does Dallas' Brad Winchester. The Stars will get a power play.

14:30: Detroit kills off the penalty.

10:39: Brad Richards carries the puck into the offensive zone and leaves a drop pass for Trevor Daley. Daley takes it and rips a shot by Chris Osgood on the blocker side. Guess no one told The Stars about this whole, "Detroit is supposed to win this" thing. Stars 1-0.

9:31: Mike Modano is nabbed for interfering with Tomas Holmstrom.

6:26: Daley is sent off for inteference.

4:30: From the point, Niklas Kronwall slides a cross ice pass to Jiri Hudler to the right side of the net. Hudler directs it on net but Turco makes a nice save. Hudler grabs the rebound and is able to punch it in. Red Wings 1, Stars 1.

1:43: Kronwall absolutely runs over Antti Miettinen inside Detroit's blue line.

0:00: End of period. Red Wings 1, Stars 1.

SECOND PERIOD

18:52: Mattias Norstrom is called for slashing the stick out of a Red Wing's hands. Mike Milbury gets his caveman on and complains that's a penalty.

13:57: The Red Wings make a bad line change andpay for it. Joel Lundqvist comes up ice on a two-on-one. He elects to hang on to the puck and lifts a wrister the beats Osgood on the stick side. Really sloppy play by the Red Wings.

13:06: Holmstrom is sent off for cross checking.

8:34: Mike Emrick pulls out a Hartford Whalers reference. Solid.

5:37: Jiri Hudler is sent off for slashing.

0:00: End of period. Stars 2, Red Wings 1.

-Did anyone tell either of these teams this series was over?

THIRD PERIOD

18:13: NBC busts out a solid stat: Dallas is 5-1 when leading after two periods in these playoffs.

15:24: Holmstrom has a chance in tight against Dallas but Turco denies him on the one-timer. Big save.

10:56: Chris Chelios gets his first shot on net since 1937. Turco turns the slapper away.

7:49: Holmstrom takes a stupid penalty as he takes a punch at a player on the Dallas bench. Two minutes for roughing. Terrible time to do that.

6:12: Matt Niskanen dishes a nice pass to Brenden Morrow who gets behind the Detroit defense. Morrow comes in alone on Osgood and beats him but puts his shot off the cross bar. Morrow's supposed to be a big-time player and he needs to bury that. If he does, the Stars pretty much have this game wrapped up. For some reason, Red Wings fans begin to chant "Ozzz-Eeeee! Ozzzz-Eeeee!" for Osgood. It's not like he did anything on that play.

1:45: Pavel Datsyuk fires a slapper from the left wing. Turco easliy kicks it out.

0:57: The Red Wings get an important icing call and will get a faceoff in the Dallas zone. The Red Wings call a timeout to get organized and pulls Osgood for an extra attacker.

0:10: The Red Wings are called for icing. The faceoff will come back to their end of the ice. That will essentially wrap this game up.

0:00: End of game. Stars 2, Red Wings 1.

POSTGAME

-This was Marty Turco's first win ever in Detroit.

-Remember when this was going to be a clean-cut sweep for the Red Wings?

-Assuming the Penguins advance tomorrow, they have to be happy seeing the Red Wings being forced to a sixth game. That's another game Detroit has to grind through.

-We've done three of these semi-live blogs for games not involving the Penguins this postseason and all three times the team we wanted to win has lost. We did Game 7 of the Flyers-Capitals series and the last two games of this series. Perhaps we should give this up.
