NOTES
-Apologies for this being late and brief today. We're a little sick.
-If you live outside of Pittsburgh and have Center Ice please let us know if you were able to watch or not. It's scheduled to be on NHL Network and some Center Ice customers couldn't access the game because of that. Hit us up at srorabaugh@post-gazette.com. Please tell us your cable/satellite provider and where you live. If you were able to watch the game, let us know what channel.
-According to DirecTV's Web site, the game is available through Center Ice. It will be on channel 215 which is the NHL Network's channel. Now we don't know if this means you get NHL Network for the roughly three hours the game is played or if this is even legit. As far as other satellite or cable providers are concerned, we don't know what to tell you. There seems to be a lot of miscommunication on this issue between the league and the various satellite/cable providers.

-Islanders forward Miroslav Satan scored a goal in a 4-2 loss to the Rangers. He now is seven points away from 666 in his career.
EMPTY NETTER ASSISTS
Penguins
-Erik Christensen gets a new stick.
-Evgeni Malkin apparently has a better English teacher than Aleksey Morozov.
-Mark Recchi may not be around for his bobblehead night Monday.
-If you weren't able to buy tickets to the AARP Winter Classic, you can bid on some warm, indoor ones.
Atlantic Division
-Devils forward Jay Pandolfo, a noted Penguins killer, is dealing with an injury in the pelvis area.
Islanders defenseman Radek Martinek claims Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg tried to rip out his stitches.
Northeast Division
-Zdeno Chara scored twice and led the Bruins to a 4-3 win at Florida.
-The Maple Leafs ended a four-game losing streak and defeated the Thrashers 4-2.
-Ottawa defenseman Anton Volchenkov is dealing with a hand injury.
-There's some nude paintings of Bruins legends Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson floating around.
-Toronto forward Boyd Devereaux has started a music label.
Southeast Division
-The Hurricanes are having trouble scoring goals.
Central Division
-Chris Osgood made 21 saves and picked up his 12 win of the season in a 4-2 defeat of the Lightning.
-A goal by Martin Erat gave the Predators with 22 seconds left gave the Predators a 6-5 win at Ottawa in perhaps the most entertaining game of the season.
-The sale of the Predators was approved.
Pacific Division
-Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 38 saves and led the Ducks to a 4-1 win in Calgary.
-The Ducks assigned center Mark Mowers to SC Bern of the Swiss National League.
-Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanovski was suspended for one game after a hit on Wild forward Marian Gaborik.
Northwest Division
-Roberto Luongo stopped 26 shots an picked up his third consecutive shutout in a 2-0 win against the Blue Jackets. We actually watched this snore-fest. The one cool thing that did happen was when they started playing "Louie, Louie" in honor of Luongo.
Smythe Division
-From the "What the #*$@! are they doing this for" department, the IIHF has agreed to used NHL-sized rinks for any international tournaments being held in North America. Apparently, the wide-open style of play normally seen on the international stage was way too exciting.
-Speaking of boring hockey, goal-scoring is down in the NHL by nearly a goal since the first season following the lockout.
-The NHL will adopt a new schedule format in 2008-09. So basically, the Penguins won't play the Islanders 38 times next season.
-A bus carrying the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL was involved in a crash near Harborcreak, Pa.
