Useless Maple Leafs Trivia: The Maples Leafs have played under four identities: The Toronto Blueshirts (1912-17), the Toronto Arenas (1917-19), the Toronto St. Pats (1919-1927) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (1927-present.).
Best Maple Leafs YouTube video We Could Find: Maple Leaf Gardens is a dump these days:
NOTES:
-Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe is probable for tonight's game. Expect the Penguins to score 14 goals tonight if that's the case.
-Jiri Tlusty, the Maple Leafs first round draft pick in 2006, will be making his NHL debut tonight.
-We'll be sitting in Section D-7, Row E, Seat 10 at tonight's game. Pregame Festivities will be taking place at Pizza Milano on Fifth Ave. sometime between 6 p.m. and game time. Look for a handsome devil in a Team Russia jersey. (We spilled nacho cheese on our Lemieux jersey Tuesday night and never got a chance to wash it.) Stop by and say hi.
-Even if the Maple Leaf fans are surly and boorish tonight (as they usually are), don't boo the Canadian national anthem. Have some class and applaud it politely at the very least. You're representing Pittsburgh.
-It certainly is appropriate to boo the Maple Leafs and their fans afterwards however.

KANE IS ABLE
When he was drafted first overall in this year's draft, many wondered if Chicago's Patrick Kane was ready to play in the NHL this season.
He proving many of those doubters wrong.
Kane, who was the sixth-leading scorer in the NHL through Tuesday, is outdoing some of his predecessors. Through nine games, the top overall selection of this years' draft has out-scored the top overall picks of the 2004 draft (Alexander Ovechkin) and the 2005 draft (Sidney Crosby) at the same stages of their rookie campaigns.
EMPTY NETTER ASSISTS
Penguins
-Michel Therrien digs the "Original Six."
-You won't be getting a seat from Mellon Arena anytime soon.
-David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail had an interesting piece on the season Marc-Andre Fleury has had so far.
-Images of the new McFarlane figurines have been released. Those available include:
-Toronto's Jason Blake.
-Vancouver's Trevor Linden in a retro Canucks jersey.
-Buffalo's Ryan Miller.
-Washington's Alexander Ovechkin.
-Colorado's Joe Sakic in a Nordiques jersey.
-EN reader Jason Bednik spotted this excerpt from "Gretzky to Lemieux," a book about the relationship between Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux during the 1987 Canada Cup.
Atlantic Division
-Nothing's official, but the playing career of former Flyers center Eric Lindros is pretty much over.
-Bill Clement and his amazing moustache will be joining the Flyers broadcast team.
Northeast Division
-Maple Leafs center Mats Sundin thinks Thrashers goaltender Johan Hedberg tripped him during a shootout in Atlanta's 5-4 win Tuesday. You can take a look at the alleged trip at 1:50 of this video:
-Former Penguins defenseman Joel Bouchard signed with the Montreal Canadiens' AHL affiliate Hamilton.
-Baseball is sort of popular in Boston, so the Bruins are moving the start of their game against the Flyers Saturday up three hoursin order to avoid a conflict with the World Series.Southeast Division
-Chris Clark scored two goals and led the Capitals to a 5-3 win against the Lightning Wednesday.
-Bret Hedican and Eric Staal each scored three points as the Hurricanes smacked the Sabres, 6-2, last night.
-In a 4-3 defeat of the Flyers, Olli Jokinen scored two goals and became the Panthers all-time leader in goals and points.
-Lightning forward Michel Ouellet, a former Penguin, is feeling the heat for not producing for Tampa Bay. Through eight games he only has two points. It's amazing how much your point production will go down when you're not playing on a line with two former No. 2 overall draft picks like Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal.
Central Division
-Blue Jackets head coach Ken Hitchcock is a Springsteen fan.
Pacific Division
-They may not be entertaining on the ice, but the low-scoring Stars have some pretty good commercials:
(Kudos to Kukla's Korner for spotting that.)
-Somehow we missed this sick save by former Penguins goaltender Jean-Sebastian Aubin in a 4-3 shootout win by the Kings over the Wild Oct. 16. Check it out at 1:47 of this video:
(Kudos to EN reader Ann Vrabel of Baltimore for spotting this.)
Northwest Division
-The Wild blew a three goal lead and suffered their first regulation loss of the season, a 5-3 defeat in Calgary.
East Division
-James Mirtle ranks all 30 teams by size.
-No Pun Intended takes a look at the broadcast schedule for Versus and finds out there's a lot of East Coast bias in it.
