Penguins sign Darryl Sydor, Petr Sykora

July 2, 2007

TSN is reporting the Penguins have signed defenseman Darryl Sydor and forward Petr Sykora.

The left-handed Sydor is a former first-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings (1990). He had five goals, 16 assists and 21 points last season with the Dallas Stars.

He has won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay (2004) and Dallas (1999).

Sykora, a former first round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 1995, registered 22 goals, 31 assists and 53 points in 82 games with the Oilers in 2006-07.

A native of the Czech Republic, Sykora won the Stanley Cup with New Jersey in 2000.

Both deals are for two-years and seem to fit into the Penguins' plans of acquiring a puck-moving defenseman and a winger with some scoring ability.
