First-round draft choice Bud Dupree will miss the first two days of Steelers minicamp for good reason, he will graduate from the University of Kentucky, which is holding ceremonies on Saturday.
Dupree earned his degree in four years at Kentucky, staying in school this spring while most pro prospects drop out to concentrate on working out for the Indianapolis combine, their pro days and often making many visits to individual NFL teams in April.
“He was talked about as a team leader,’’ Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said the day they drafted him. “When we were there for the pro day, it was just endless support and praise for this kid.”
Dupree will miss today and Saturday with his fellow Steelers rookies, but is scheduled to arrive Saturday night for the final day of the rookie minicamp on Sunday. He and other rookies also are permitted to stay and work out with their new teammates through the spring.
