The question I’ve been asked most the past couple days is about Todd Haley’s chances of becoming the head coach in Arizona.
Well, they seem to get better each day a potential candidate for the position accepts a job with another team.
The latest candidate to go elsewhere is Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who reached agreement today with the San Diego Chargers to be their head coach.
He is the second offensive-oriented coach who was on the Cardinals’ list of candidates to sign with another team. Former Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid joined the Kansas City Chiefs before the Cardinals even had a chance to interview him.
If Arizona is looking for a coach with an offensive background, that could help Haley’s cause.
Haley interviewed with the Cardinals last week and outlined for owner Mike Bidwell what he felt was needed if he was to become their head coach. Haley spoke from experience as a former coordinator with the Cardinals and a head coach for three seasons after that with the Chiefs.
Haley has a good relationship with Bidwill, which could also help his cause. But Haley has said he is perfectly content to remain with the Steelers.
