Ed: Tomlin Promotes Dwyer to No. 1 RB

Coach Mike Tomlin has promoted Jonathan Dwyer to start at halfback for the Steelers in Baltimore on Sunday.
Tomlin listed Dwyer as the starter on the new depth chart that is out this morning with Isaac Redman No. 2 and former starter Rashard Mendenhall No. 3.
While Tomlin’s depth charts always do not reflect reality – Ben Roethlisberger is listed as the starting quarterback this week, as he was listed last week even though he was out – this is a significant change for him because Mendenhall has been listed as the starter all season.
All four halfbacks on the active list lost fumbles in Cleveland Sunday. Mendenhall started and, with a 7-0 Steelers lead, he lost the first one on the team’s second play on offense, his second carry. Tomlin pulled him from the game and continued to pull his other backs after they fumbled.
After those first two carries, however, Mendenhall got only two more carries against the Browns. Dwyer, who fumbled when he was hit hard with a defender’s helmet on the ball, had nine carries for 19 yards. Redman had two carries and Chris Rainey five.
Dwyer had consecutive 100-yard games before he missed the next game Nov. 12 vs. Kansas City with a thigh injury.
