The Seattle Mariners completed the Arquimedes Caminero trade Thursday, sending to the Pirates two minor-league pitchers, left-hander Jake Brentz and right-hander Pedro Vasquez.
Brentz, 21, was ranked by MLB.com as the Mariners’ No. 26 prospect. He has a 5.32 ERA in 20 appearances, seven starts, this season, spent almost entirely at the Class A level. He was drafted in the 11th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2013 and was traded to Seattle in a package deal for Mark Lowe last year.
Vasquez, 20, has a 2.26 ERA in 13 games, 12 starts, this season between the rookie-level Arizona League Mariners and Class A short-season Clinton. He was signed by the Mariners last spring as a non-drafted free agent from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Caminero, who had a 3.51 ERA in 39 appearances for the Pirates this season prior to the trade, has allowed six earned runs in 14 innings for the Mariners.
