Pirates sign first-round pick Newman

The Pirates announced the singing of one of their first-round draft picks, University of Arizona shortstop Kevin Newman, today. They will introduce him at a press conference at 4 p.m. at PNC Park.

Newman will report to the short-season West Virginia Black Bears of the New York-Penn League. Their season begins Friday.
