Shots Across the Bow: The final game

Shots Across the Bow: The final game

CINCINNATI -- Today's game will mean almost nothing. It will decide nothing, and relevant players will play sparingly, if at all.

It could have been the final regular-season start of Gerrit Cole's rookie year, but that is not the case. Instead, Cole will back up Francisco Liriano Tuesday. Cole has pitched his way into the NLDS rotation, should they get that far. He has been exceptional recently, and while it isn't surprising given his raw talent, his attitude and approach help as well.

In today's paper: Pirates hit six home runs, send playoff game to PNC Park.
