Thought of the day
Even in the midst of a high stakes pennant chase, the Washington Nationals did the right thing postponing yesterday’s game against the Braves in the midst of the Navy Yard shootings.
Sport and life collide all the time – even when we repeatedly forget – and this was a clear time to put baseball on hold.
The shootings took place just five blocks away and some of the stadium parking lots were used as staging areas for families to reunite.
The Braves can clinch the National League East with a sweep in today’s doubleheader, and the Nationals of course are staging a September run they hope will lead to a Wild Card berth.
As thrilling as that is for both teams and fans, life and safety are trump cards.
