Shots Across the Bow: Going wireless

BRADENTON, Fla. -- In today's Post-Gazette: An injury stalls Francisco Liriano's deal with the Pirates.

Shaun Marcum is still out there. Joe Saunders is available. It gets ugly quick. A trade for a starter may make sense at this point.

The Pirates said they would be comfortable with Kyle McPherson and Jeff Locke in the rotation, but then agreed to terms with Liriano, so it stands to reason that they would like to upgrade if possible. As spring training approachs and teams take stock of what they have, trades may become easier to develop.

MLB and T-Mobile agreed to join forces, and one of the resulting changes will be a wireless communication system that connects the dugout to the bullpen.

If only Tony La Russa were still managing.
