• No passing yards, 12 penalties and a winless record to begin the night. None of that mattered Thursday, as the Westinghouse football team picked up its first win, a 30-7 City League victory against Allderdice at Cupples Stadium. Mike Massey ran for 72 yards and scored twice to pace the Bulldogs. Westinghouse (1-3, 1-1) ran for 252 yards and held the Dragons (0-4, 0-1) to minus-60.
• Seneca Valley boys soccer coach George Williams led his Raiders to a 3-0 triumph against his alma mater, Class 4A No. 2 Fox Chapel (4-1, 3-1). Luke Rupert netted all three goals for the fourth-ranked Raiders (5-1, 4-0). Williams graduated from Fox Chapel in 1988.
• An unassisted goal by Evan Fetter with two minutes remaining was the difference as Butler (5-0, 4-0) knocked off Class 4A No. 5 North Allegheny (4-2, 2-2), 3-2, in a Section 1 boys soccer match.
• In a battle of top boys soccer teams, Class 3A No. 2 South Fayette (5-1) defeated Class 4A No. 1 Canon-McMillan (6-1), 3-2, when Elliott Sanders booted in the game-winner in overtime. It was Sanders’ first goal of the season.
• The Reiter brothers combined to score eight goals for Class 2A No. 1 Quaker Valley (4-2, 3-0) in its 11-0 shutout of Hopewell (2-4, 1-3) in Section 4 boys soccer. Dom Reiter found the net five times while brother Fritz had three goals.
• Luke Peperak’s three goals helped Connellsville (5-1, 4-0) get by Latrobe (0-4, 0-4), 4-2, in Class 4A Section 3.
• In a high-scoring boys soccer match, Central Valley and New Brighton combined to produce a trio of hat tricks, but it was the Warriors that won the Class 2A Section 4 clash, 19-3. Reed Stablow and Tanner Goletti scored three goals apiece for Central Valley (1-5, 1-3). Chase Yopp did all of the scoring for New Brighton (0-4, 0-3).
• Top-ranked Winchester Thurston (4-0, 3-0) continued its domination with a 10-1 rout of St. Joseph (2-5, 1-3) in Class 1A Section 2 boys soccer. Beck Buchannon led the charge with four goals. Diederik-Paul Schlingeman and Grant Robinson netted three goals each. The Bears have outscored opponents 33-2.
• Aymeric Verdier was all Class 1A No. 5 Avonworth (5-1, 3-1) needed to get past Section 3 foe Riverview (3-1, 2-1). Verdier scored every goal in the 3-0 victory.
• Carnell Kerr racked up three goals and four assists to lead Carlynton (5-1, 2-1) past Vincentian (0-4, 0-4), 12-0, in Class 1A Section 3 boys soccer. Kerr scored nine goals in his previous game and the Cougars have outscored their past two opponents, 26-0.
• Reigning WPIAL scoring champion Cullin Woytovich scored three times and assisted on two other goals for Class 2A No. 4 Charleroi (4-0, 4-0) in its 8-1 Section 3 win against Brownsville (2-3, 1-2).
• Melissa Riggins broke a scoreless tie by knocking in the game-winner with 10 minutes remaining to lift Class 1A No. 2 Shady Side Academy (3-1) to a 1-0 non-section victory over neighboring Fox Chapel (4-2) in girls soccer.
• Renae Mohrbacher scored four times, giving her 14 for the season, as Freedom (5-0, 3-0) ran away with a 9-0 win against Sewickley Academy (2-2, 2-2) in Class 1A Section 3 girls soccer.
• The Upper St. Clair boys golf team had three players under par in the Panthers’ 175-207 triumph against Trinity at St. Clair Country Club. Nathan Piatt led the way with a 3-under 31, while Scott Jordan and Jack Urban each shot 32.
