To restore the Notre Dame Cathedral would be a grievous disservice to the faithful. A visible structure made by man’s hands is not eternal. The memory of such a structure would remain eternal in the collective memory of humanity.
Man’s works are only remembered by the genius inherent in his skill at the time of construction. Would we rebuild the ancient monuments of the Giza Plateau if they were destroyed? I think not. It would be a mockery to the original masons’ everlasting secrets.
Stabilize and protect what remains of this cathedral. Carry forth this ideal into every action to rebuild this fractured world. Apply the wealth of men and church to that which is removed from stone and mortar.
