Bike Pittsburgh welcomes action by the governor and our Legislature to provide a comprehensive, sustainable transportation funding solution that will benefit travelers, regardless of how they choose to move throughout the commonwealth.
In 2011, Gov. Tom Corbett's Transportation Funding Advisory Commission gave him a comprehensive solution that includes funding for borough, township, city, county and state road and bridge programs, public transit, inland waterway and coastal ports, airports and freight rail. As an organization devoted to safe, accessible streets for those who make their trips by walking and biking, and a member of the Keystone Transportation Funding Coalition -- a large and diverse group composed of organizations that represent public health, senior citizens, trucking, construction, transit, biking and walking interests -- we support a plan that will enhance our entire multi-modal transportation system so that it is safe and effective for all users.
According to our membership survey, most of our 2,200 members use multiple modes to get around. At some point during the week, our members drive, bike, walk or take public transit. A comprehensive funding solution will be of great benefit to all citizens of Pennsylvania should they choose any of these modes to arrive at their destinations. All residents of Pennsylvania should be served with safe and convenient transportation options.
