I appreciate the sensitivity of Dick's Sporting Goods in suspending certain gun sales during the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., shootings. It shows an awareness that was absent on the Post-Gazette website only days after the horror when the newspaper ran a banner advertisement from Ace Sporting Goods in Washington, Pa., across the top of the page telling Christmas shoppers that plenty of firearms were on its shelves in time for gift-giving.
While the newspaper is duty-bound -- and needs the revenue -- to use acceptable ads, it would have been a thoughtful gesture to suspend the Ace ad for just a few days in light of the tragedy.
