Three airports in region get grants from state

The state has awarded $828,000 in grants to Pittsburgh International Airport, Allegheny County Airport and Butler County Airport.

Pittsburgh International in Findlay will receive $750,000 to complete pavement, joint and crack sealing on its north runway and multiple taxiways, spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said.

She said the work will start in the spring. It is designed to prolong the life of the runway and taxiways. The county's airport authority will provide $250,000 toward the work.

At the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin, a $75,000 grant will be used to fund the first phase design of a project to rehabilitate power and lighting systems in the main terminal and in the public parking lot and a parking lot building. The airport authority will chip in $25,000.

Butler County Airport in Penn will receive $3,000 to develop a municipal hazard zoning ordinance.

The awards are part of $4 million in grants announced Thursday under the state Department of Transportation's aviation development program, funded through a jet fuel tax.
