2 unions ratify agreements with state by wide margins

The Wolf administration on Tuesday announced the ratification of one-year labor agreements with members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 13 and with the United Food and Commercial Workers.

The AFSCME contract covers about 41,000 workers in state agencies, said executive director Dave Fillman. The UFCW contract covers about 3,500 retail employees in the state wine and liquor stores, said union president Wendell Young.

The contracts include a 2.25 percent step increase for employees who have at least one year of continuous service by January 2016. They include no change to employer or employee contributions to health care.

Both union leaders said their agreements were ratified by wide margins.

In a statement, Secretary of Administration Sharon Minnich said the agreements are fair to employees and to taxpayers.

The administration said negotiations continue with other unions whose contracts expire June 30.
