State libraries to help explain voter ID law

State libraries to help explain voter ID law

The Pennsylvania Library Association is working with the Department of State to provide educational materials about the new voter ID law at libraries throughout the state.

The handouts tell voters they will need to show a photo ID at the polls in November. They list the acceptable forms of identification, which include photo IDs issued by the state or federal governments, county or municipal employers and Pennsylvania colleges and nursing homes.

The handouts tell voters that if they do not have one of the IDs, they can get one free of charge at a PennDOT driver license center. If they do not have an acceptable ID on election day, they can vote with a provisional ballot, which will be counted if they verify their identity within six days.

The fliers instruct people with more questions to visit www.votespa.com or call 1-877-868-3772. The library association has agreed to distribute the handouts to 632 libraries across the state.

The Department of State also plans to conduct advertising campaigns and robo-calls about the new law.
