Sales at Pennsylvania's state-operated Wine & Spirits stores reached a record $1.84 billion in fiscal year 2008-09, the Liquor Control Board announced today.
The sales generated more than $494.5 million in sales tax.
"We are fortunate that sales at our Wine & Spirits stores continue to rise, even as the economy slows," said board Chairman Patrick Stapleton. "Our success is all the more important to Pennsylvania taxpayers when you consider the $494.5 million in taxes and profits the Liquor Control Board transferred to the General Fund to help pay for essential services, such as public safety, education, transportation and health care."
