Random Acts of Kindness: Group readily agreed to change its table

Six senior ladies, myself included, went to Bravo Franco Ristorante on April 29 to celebrate the birthday of one member of our party.

When we arrived, however, we found to our dismay that since I had failed specifically to reserve the “round table,” we would be seated at the semicircular banquette, which did not easily accommodate the two members of our party who use walkers.

Carole, the maitre d’ and hostess, then asked the six diners occupying the round table if they would mind moving to the banquette so that we could avail ourselves of their table. Even though they had already been served their drinks, they did not hesitate.

They rose immediately to head for the banquette, and when I thanked one of the women, she instantly and cheerfully replied, “I’m delighted to do it!”

We would have loved to have been able to treat these generous people to a second round of drinks, but as seniors on fixed incomes we are instead resorting to this public appreciation of their graciousness.

Young man with troubles supported woman in need

Back in March, as I was headed down the stairs at the Gateway T Station, I had an incident with a knee (meniscus tear) that left me stopped in my tracks. I was in so much pain, I literally felt like I could not move.

After I was standing there for a moment holding the stair railing, a kind young man came up beside me and offered to let me lean on him to make it the rest of the way down the stairs.

He told me that he knows how it is to need help from others, as he himself has suffered from seizures and now has cancer. What a wonderful help he was to me that afternoon. I think, all these weeks later, that without his help I might still be standing on that step unable to move.

He was off to get his subway ride before I could thank him from the bottom of my heart. I told so many other people about his kindness, and I am truly grateful for his taking the time to help me. I now remember him in my prayers and am hopeful that others will help him as he helped me.

Checks were picked up for more than 20 diners

On April 24, 21 senior citizens from the Penn Hills Senior Center who take part in the “Let’s Eat Out Group” were at Roland’s Seafood Grill in the Strip District.

The service and food were excellent, and when it came time for the waiter to give the 21 seniors their respective checks, we experienced an act of kindness beyond belief. The waiter, a very good one, informed all of us that a woman who was a regular patron at the restaurant had paid for the entire group of seniors, all 21.

Naturally, the waiter would not reveal the name of this wonderful person who performed her generous act of kindness. But the entire group of seniors from Penn Hills extend our appreciation and our best to her.

Trio made sure deer had not hurt anyone

On Cliff Mine Road in North Fayette on April 20 a deer ran in front of our SUV.

We stopped and didn’t hit it, but a second deer leapt over our SUV, striking part of our roof. Three people stopped to see if we were hurt and to help us.

We were not hurt, but we want to thank the people who stopped to help us. It showed there are still caring people in the world.
