Lookout Windpower Project LLC has submitted plans to build 18 wind turbines about 4 miles from the borough of Berlin.
The Leawood, Kan.-based company said it will move forward quickly with the project if it receives approval from the Somerset County Planning Commission.
Two other companies have also filed plans for wind farms with the commission.
Costs of the Lookout project were not immediately disclosed.
About three dozen wind turbines operate in Somerset County, providing electricity to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.
Wind farms produce no emissions and require no fuel. Instead, wind turbines with huge blades spin as sustained winds rush by them, turning power-generating turbines.
Some environmental groups are concerned that birds can drift into the blades and be killed. Wind farms can also be seen for miles in some areas, and some people consider them unsightly.
