Allegheny County has extended hours for ballot returns

The Allegheny County Elections Division is reminding voters that ballot return is available until Election Day at the Ross Street entrance (between Fourth Avenue and Forbes Avenue) of the County Office Building, Downtown, for extended hours and weekends beginning on Friday.

Currently, voters may go into the lobby of the County Office Building at 542 Forbes Ave. and return their ballots in person. Beginning Friday, voters will be able to go to the Ross Street entrance of the building and return their ballot to elections staff located directly inside of those doors. As has been done in the past, the right lane of Ross Street, closest to the County Office Building, will be sectioned off to allow motorists to easily pull over near the entrance and return their completed ballot.

Hours for that entrance are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The hours next week are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

On Monday, Nov. 7, the hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 8 (Election Day), the hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The county reminded voters that state law requires that voters return their own ballot; they may not return the ballots of others; ballots must be placed in the secrecy envelope because “naked” ballots will not be counted; voters should not mark the secrecy envelope in any way; and voters must sign and date the declaration envelope — if either the signature or date, or both, are missing, the ballot cannot be counted.

Over-the-Counter Voting, Office Hours

Over-the-counter voting will remain available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM through Tuesday, November 1 in the lobby of the County Office Building. The concession stand space is staffed by the Elections Division staff. Voters may apply for, receive, complete and return their ballot on one visit. Before extended ballot return hours begin on Friday, ballots may also be returned to staff at the window during regular business hours.

If a voter has made an error on their ballot, or has not received one previously applied for, the Elections Division can reissue the ballot in its main offices during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is located on the third floor of the County Office Building.

There will be 1,323 polling places open on Election Day. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and anyone in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

To verify your polling place, visit https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/pages/pollingplaceinfo.aspx. The state’s site is set up to use your mailing address, not your municipality.
