A New Stanton man has been arrested on charges that he drove under the influence and struck a pedestrian in East Huntingdon on Saturday, killing him.
Matthew Ramsay, 29, faces charges of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and other crimes in the death of 49-year-old Joseph Cummins of Mt. Pleasant.
Pennsylvania State Police, who are leading the investigation, said Mr. Cummins was running with his dog along Ruffsdale Alverton Road, less than a half mile from State Route 31 when a car hit him shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday and the driver fled the scene.
Medics took Mr. Cummins to Frick Hospital and he was then flown to UPMC Presbyterian, where he died during emergency surgery.
State police announced today that they had arrested Mr. Ramsay in connection with the crash. Mr. Ramsay is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to online court records.
Police said Mr. Cummin’s dog was not hit in the crash.
