Bridgeville Public Library to restore Monday operations

Bridgeville Public Library to restore Monday operations

The Bridgeville Public Library will restore operating hours on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting next week.

"We received so much feedback from patrons and from the South Fayette Library about patrons who said they tried to visit the Bridgeville library that the board decided to restore service on Mondays," said Joyce Heinrich, the main fundraiser for the library.

The library reduced its hours of operation from 58 to 35 hours in April, including making the decision to close on Mondays, after state funding cutbacks and the tough economy led to a reduction in donations.

"We are still in a difficult situation financially, but with a new series of fundraisers, we hope to turn this thing around," she said.

The library is in the process of putting together a schedule of fundraising events.

John McDonald and the Mango Men performed a concert Saturday and a Taste of the Town. will be held fro 6 to 10 p.m. April 13 in the Bridgeville Fire Hall.

She said 15 restaurants from the Bridgeville area will serve their own food, and refreshments will include wine, beer and nonalcoholic beverages.

A Beatles Tribute band, The Savoy Truffles, will play at the event.

The cost is $60 a ticket, and $40 for seniors, 65 and older.

Ms. Heinrich said tickets are available at the library.

Among other fundraisers will be a concert by local jazz musician Jill West, a classical music concert and a comedy night.

Besides raising money, Ms. Heinrich said the events have another goal.

"We hope to bring new people to the library," she said.

"A lot of people still go to the old library and caboose on Station Street."

The former library site closed Dec. 15, 2010, when the facility moved to its new, larger location on McMillan Street.

The new library opened in January 2011.

The building and caboose, which housed the children's library, is now home to the Bridgeville Area Historical Society.
