A standoff between a man who barricaded himself in his home and police continued for most of the night Sunday.
Police and SWAT teams responded to the 300 block of Catherine Street at approximately 6:30 p.m., and cleared the scene about 12:30 a.m., after more than six hours of negotiating.
Bangs could be heard from a block away as police attempted to negotiate with the man.
"This is the Allegheny County Police. You need to come to the front door right away," officers said using a loudspeaker with repeated loud bangs echoing in the background.
Police had the block closed off to the public Sunday night. Chief Cifrulak would not identify the man or confirm whether he was a known subject with law enforcement.
"We've established a dialogue and it looks positive," he said. "We'll continue here as long as it takes for things to resolve peacefully."
